While Microsoft and Google are pushing the use of their AI tools (some are free and some are not), nonprofits don't understand the risks they may have in using these tools. Without proper data governance, AI can provide information to staff who shouldn't have access. It is time to examine data governance and file sharing as David Deal explains in his blog post.

New from InfoWorld, a look inside the CTO's toolbox at the most strategic areas of enterprise tools development and innovation today. Clearspeed's CTO Robert Rozploch shares why #containerization as part of an enterprise tech strategy is on the rise, and how it supports faster, easier, and more secure application deployment: “The fact that containers are independent of their infrastructures means that we can take advantage of that portability to scale efficiently, optimize computing resources and respond to changes in across our various operating scenarios."https://lnkd.in/dTZmBtAF#enterprisetech #innovation

After GiveUpGithub, the Software Freedom Conservancy is now calling to Exit Zoom! The continued backlashes against both Github and now Zoom are a strange part of the growth of AI.Companies change their ToS to allow data usage for AI training to find new revenue streams. Customers don't want their data to be used. Companies try to backpaddle a bit while leaving some doors open. Everyone wonders why no one trusts the step back. Rinse and repeat for the next company.Shouldn't their management and boards have been able to predict the backlash? Does the potential hype and very hypothetical revenue make them blind to their customers? Sometimes AI Strategies seem to be very strange. The Register has more on the underlying stories from the SFC campaign.#AI #opensource #board #governance #strategy https://lnkd.in/g-aGxstz

You have to design and build systems for people. Understanding people are always part of those systems. Even the ones we believe we are designing to function without people, such as automation, AI, etc."In what she calls a “waterfall system” — a term she applies to government writ large, not software development specifically — government and its associated tech are designed around the needs, risks and incentives of bureaucracy, not the user experience of systems or intentions of policymakers. We're thrilled to announce IVP's participation in the $200M+ Series D financing for Glean, the leading Enterprise focused AI search tool. It's an honor and privilege to be partnering again with Cofounder and CEO Arvind Jain. We had the opportunity to first partner with Arvind back in 2017 when IVP led the Series D financing and I joined the board of Rubrik (something about Arvind and Series D rounds!). Arvind is one of the great builders in Silicon Valley - his experience includes stints as a distinguished member of the engineering team for Google Search, Cofounder and key technologist at Rubrik and now Cofounder and CEO of Glean. His vision to increase productivity while making work fun again is being realized every day at Glean! Glean enables the magic of Consumer search experiences like Perplexity to be unlocked at the workplace. The company has done this by harnessing the power of LLMs and RAG technology to galvanize search relevancy and accuracy within the Enterprise. Glean has prioritized security and data access which is key for adoption - we heard this from numerous CIO's at customers around the world. All answers generated are secure, private, permissions-aware, and fully referenceable back to source documentation. Glean partners today with over 100 leading SaaS Apps (Servicenow, Slack, Google Docs, Dropbox) with more coming soon! Leading Enterprises like Databricks, Canva and Sony along with IVP portfolio companies like Grammarly are using Glean today. The company is among the fastest growing AI companies we've met with ARR increasing 4x annually in 2023. This is the product we all wished we had over the last decade and AI has made this possible in a way that is still hard to fully comprehend. Great to see the endorsem*nt of Databricks, Workday, Capital One and Citi as investors in the Series D financing. We're thrilled to be coinvesting again with existing board members Mamoon Hamid and Ravi Mhatre and the amazing teams at Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed. And humbled to be coinvesting with fellow new investors and longtime collaborators Coatue and ICONIQ Capital. Special shout out to longtime team member and recent IVP alum Michael Miao who joined Glean recently as VP of Finance! Michael was invaluable in coordinating the financing and we couldn't be more happy for him in his new role! We put together our thoughts on Glean in the blog post below! Microsoft just surveyed me "How likely are you to recommend Teams?".Having been retired for a decade, the functionality within the Microsoft stack that we take for granted is quite frankly, mind boggling. DoxAdvisors uses Teams extensively and the knowledgebase by-product is a significant asset. Email is all but gone internally, meetings are transcribed, projects are tracked, and files uploaded - all effortlessly. This sexagenarian received no training.I've been privileged to have a sneak peek at what's coming this year from NetDocuments in terms of Teams integration. I think no additional training will be required.NetDocuments is our highly secure well organised source of truth for key business and project documentation. Email, Teams and our DMS can all seamlessly co-exist. And so, when we come to realise that there are 1000s of flavours of AI, that many will co-exist in our business. It's happening already. My previous start-ups had a server room and full-time staff to deliver a fraction of what is available in the cloud today. It just works.I foresee functional embedded AI as being highly intuitive. Transparent even.Already, I could have clicked the "Rewrite with AI" button. I chose not to this time, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't occasionally thought it's done a much better job than me.Looking to experiment with PatternBuilderMAX AI. DoxAdvisors has created a unique environment that for a limited time we are offering law firms free secure access to experiment and experience. DM for details.#PatternBuilderMAX #experimentation

Having access to Copilot as part of the private preview given to a handful of organisations globally has been hugely insightful to better understand and see how it will fundamentally change the way in which we all interact with the M365 suite both as lawyers but also as people working in a professional services environment. It’s made my life genuinely easier sifting through emails, summarising email chains, finding “stuff”, preparing documents and giving a decent first draft of a PowerPoint deck. As an organisation we’ve also learnt a huge amount about how to prepare for Copilot and how to get the most out of it (see some of those points in the article linked below). I’ve said this to a few clients but I genuinely can’t think of a technology which requires the same level of multi-disciplinary advice (Legal, Consulting, Cyber, Data etc) to ensure adoption across an enterprise is as successful as possible. In KPMG Law we’re working closely with Microsoft to leverage our multi-disciplinary offering to help our client’s legal teams understand how they can implement Copilot within their organisations, how to navigate the emerging complex legal and regulatory framworks in the use of GenAI and how to ensure the fundamentals of people and process aren’t forgotten along the way. #KPMG #KPMGLaw #LegalTech #GenAIStuart Fuller Philipp Glock Nick Roome Konstantin von Busekist Stuart Bedford Ali B.
