Nemona is the new rival trainer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Nemona is a very energetic teen girl who has a great love for Pokemon battles. She'll offer you aid throughout your adventures in the Paldea region, while also testing your strength in one-on-one fights.

Who is Nemona?

Nemona is the student council presented for NaranjaAcademyinPokemon Scarletor UvaAcademyin Pokemon Violet. She's friendly but is always itching to have a Pokemon battle. She's already reached the rank of Champion before the events of the game.

All of Nemona's battles

  • First Battle
  • Second Battle
  • Third Battle
  • Fourth Battle
  • Fifth Battle
  • Champion Battle

First Battle

Nemona will be with you when you get your first Pokemon and immediately challenge you to a fight. She'll lead you to a beach where you can have your first Pokemon battle.

Important Note: Nemona will decide to take the starter Pokemon weaker than the one you pick. For example, if you selected Fuecoco, she'll pick Sprigatito.

With the exception of the starter Pokemon, the Pokemon she uses in every battle is the same no matter what starter you decided on.

Lv. 5Sprigatito, Fuecoco, QuaxlyGrass, Fire, Water

This is just a tutorial fight and isn't challenging. She's going easy on you and will only use the new starter Pokemon she just obtain. You have the type advantage, so simply use yourType-specificmove in this first Pokemon fight.

Second Battle

You get to face Nemona again not too long later in the middle of the game's prologue, at the gates of Mesagoza. She will use the starter Pokemon she used at the beginning of the game, which will now be Lv. 8, plus another Pokemon.

It's good to have ground-type Pokemon in your party, as Nemona will throw out a Pawmi and use Terrastallizing. Diglett and Palean Wooper should already be available to you in the wild, so capture either one to take with you in your second fight with Nemona.

Beating her gets you 3 Revives, and she promises to teach you about Terrastallizing.

Third Battle

Battle vs. Nemona
Lv.PokemonType
LV. 21RockruffRock
LV. 21PawmiElectric
LV. 22Floragato, Crocalor, QuaxwellGrass, Fire, Water

Nemona will challenge you again when you enter your third Gym. It doesn't matter what order you're facing the Gym Leaders - she will always pop up as you enter the third Gym building.

It's still best to have a ground-type on your team because she will still have a Pawmi, plus a Rockruff, both of which are weak against ground-type moves. She'll also use Terrastallizing on her starter Pokemon. You don’t necessarily need to be Terrastillized here if your Starter Pokemon is around the same level.

Defeating Nemona earns you 3 Full Heals.

Fourth Battle

Battle vs. Nemona
Lv.PokemonType
LV. 36LycanrocRock
LV. 36PawmoElectric
LV. 36GoomyDragon
LV. 37Meowscarada, Skeledirge, QuaquavaGrass/Dark, Fire/Ghost, Water/Fighting

Nemona will challenge you again as soon as you clear your fifth Gym. It doesn't matter what order you're facing the Gym Leaders - she will always pop up as soon as you earn your fifth badge. Geeta will be watching this battle from the sideline.

Having a ground-type Pokemon is still a necessity, but Nemona has now added a dragon to her party, making things a little bit more difficult. Wild dragon and ice-type Pokemon are not common until later in the game, so a Fairy Pokemon is your best bet against Goomy. Fairy Pokemon are completely immune to dragon-type moves.

Nemona will again use Terrastallizing on her starter Pokemon. As long as you have Pokemon on the same level as her Pokemon, you should be fine.

Defeating Nemona earns you TM 171 Tera Blast from Geeta.

Fifth Battle

Battle vs. Nemona
Lv.PokemonType
LV. 42LycanrocRock
LV. 42PawmoyElectric
LV. 42SliggoDragon
LV. 43Meowscarada, Skeledirge, QuaquavaGrass/Dark, Fire/Ghost, Water/Fighting

Nemona will challenge you again when you enter your seventh Gym. It doesn't matter what order you're facing the Gym Leaders - she will always pop up as soon as you enter the seventh Gym building.

Ground remains the MVP type in this battle, but you don't necessarily need a ground Pokemon in your party. As long as one of your Pokemon knows a ground-type move like Bulldoze, taking out Lycanroc and Pawmot will be easy.

Having a fairy-type Pokemon will also do short work on Sliggoo. As long as you still have your starter Pokemon in your party, and it is over level 40, Nemona's starter will be no problem.

Defeating Nemona earns you 3 Max Potions.

Champion Battle

Battle vs. Nemona
Lv.PokemonType
Lv. 65LycanocRock
Lv. 65PawmotElectric/Fighting
Lv. 65GoodraDragon
Lv. 65DudunsparceNormal
Lv. 65OrthwormSteel
LV. 66Meowscarada, Skeledirge, QuaquavaGrass/Dark, Fire/Ghost, Water/Fighting

Champion is the final battle in the Victory Quest. You must have defeated the Elite Four and Champion Geeta at the Pokemon League. Since you are now both Champions, Nemona will challenge you to one final Pokemon battle in Mesagoza.

The best Pokemon types to use in this final battle are fighting, water, grass, fairy, psychic, ice, fire, and ground-type. It's also good to be on the same level as her and have Pokemon at least over level 60.
