The Office of Academic Achievement helps students prepare for law school classes, exams, plan their course schedules, and prepare for the Bar Exam and the Multi-state Professional Responsibility Exam. The Office of Academic Achievement and Bar Preparation offers personalized support to law students at any stage in their law school journey. One-on-one academic advising can be used as either an intervention or a preventative measure to keep students on track.

Individualized study plans and strategies are provided to individuals seeking support, as well as assistance with course scheduling. The Office of Academic Achievement also hosts programs throughout each semester on outlining, essay exam writing, and class preparation.

UIC Law places value in having a first year course that helps students develop the skills for success in law school, on the bar exam, and as an attorney. Expert Learning is a required 1 credit hour course that covers essential study strategies, lawyering skills, exam taking techniques, behaviors, and mindsets fundamental to students’ overall success in law school and beyond. The course also covers strategies for preventing the non-cognitive barriers to learning interfere with law school performance.

Top-Notch Lawyering Skills Program Heading link

The Lawyering Skills (L.S.) program at UIC Law teaches students many practical skills, including legal reasoning, legal research, oral advocacy, drafting, and counseling, and is among the leading and most comprehensive research/writing programs in the nation. The program is designed to immerse students in the art of legal writing and research over the course of four semesters. The L.S. program is home to UIC Law’s Writing Resource Center (WRC), which also supports the program in developing strong and skilled legal advocates.
