Turning Red shows Pixar’s great and Disney growing some spine

These reviews are absolutely LAUGHABLEI’ll start off by listing things some may not like: Mei (protag) does say sexy once (in reference to a picture she drew (wasn’t anything too bad)) and later that night she has a kinda weird nightmare of face flowers and flopping fish, some characters say things like crap, perv, dork-narc, stupid, and Ming (protag’s mother) accuses some kid of doing drugs. Mei (panda form) almost attacks Tyler (bully kid) because he was mouthing about her momNow I can say this movie was one of the most relatable things I’ve ever seen, and people who say it’ll promote “disrespectful behaviour” are a new kind of stupid. Pre/Teenagers will lie, roll their eyes and occasionally drift from their parents, that’s pretty normal, they don’t promote doing bad things and even show consequences for bad behavior, they show how being overbearing as a parent can make your kids drift from you even more, and hiding things from your parents won’t do any goodThey briefly talk about periods but people saying it’s “inappropriate” are also really stupid, too many people think periods are bad to learn about. NORMALIZE THEM. PLEASE.Crushes are also normal so don’t say jack crap about themAnyways I think this is an amazing movie and is one of Pixar’s best movies

The Truth about why adults don’t like Turning Red

Ok so I read all the adult reviews and most were very critical of this movie. So personally as a 15 year old girl I loved this movie because I can relate to Mei and being a teenage girl. So the reason I think most adults think this movie is boring, inappropriate or terrible is because… it is not really a movie adults should even like. What I mean is this movie is about teenage girls,it is for a specific demographic that adults aren’t apart of. So for example I am not going to like a show about a middle aged woman living her life in Ohio because that isn’t something I can relate to but I am sure you would love it as much as I love turning red. So for adults saying periods are inappropriate please hear what I have to say! The reality is talking about periods is totally akward and i get that but when your kids especially kids with uteruses turn 10 you should start this coversation because it will be a part of their lives someday so it shouldn’t be hidden from your children of any gender. I am so happy there is a Disney movie openly talking about periods because that is totally part of turning 13! Also I saw A LOT of comments saying how Mei being disrespectful to her parents and lying to her parents encourages kids to do the same thing. NEWS FLASH she is a teenager and this behavior is 100 percent expected and normal whether you like it or not. They are showing the good the bad and the ugly of being a teenager and showing resistance is a normal part of being a teenager! You were a teenager once I bet you acted and felt the same way Mei does once so please remember that when talking to your kids! Mei is a good person who takes care of her families temple, does her best in school and loves her friends. She is discovering who she is and resisting your parents is part of finding her own identity and being her own person she is becoming a woman after all! So in conclusion Turning red is a funny, honest and awesome movie about the true experience of being a teenager. Periods aren’t gross;they are normal and should be celebrated not hidden. Mei talking back and lying isn’t encouraging your kids to do the same because your kids will do this at some point and that is a fact of life. If you don’t like this movie that’s fine but I can promise you as a teenager myself this movie is great for kids especially girls 10 -16!

Periods aren't inapropriate.

These parents are going out of control, this movie isn't inapropriate, periods are a real thing and kids should know about the human body, periods aren't inapropriate, it's like eating food, nothing wrong with periods, I am surprised that they put the word "sexy" in a PG movie but it was only one scene, but yeah, the parents are going insane and don't understand that having periods is normal.

best movie ever frfr

Good movie , don’t know why people hate it so much. It’s pretty funny tho kinda cringey and awkward. Only parts that are not “fit” for children are when she describes the drawings she made , “sexy” , and Abbys mom called 4*town’s music “stripper” music. Mei also “twerks” and does weird dances to her mom to make her upset , tho it was pretty funny to me lol.

awful

This is a terrible movie, it has underlying values and teaches kids that they don't need to obey the parents and that parents don't understand. Yeah, kids should have some freedoms, but Mei in this story didn't need anything to change. Her mom was a little overprotective, but most moms wouldn't go as extreme as she did.

Edgier than other pixar films, but still a really good movie

Hi! this is my review for turning red- (Spoiler warning)Honestly, it's definitely edgier than other pixar films. This one talks about periods, liking boys (hate to say it, but it's obvious that the main characters are horny even though sex isnt mentioned at all), and rebelling against your parents. People are saying you need to be 10/11+ to watch this movie, but I would disagree. I would say the worst part of the film is the fact that Mei drew pictures of her and her crush ( a 17 year old cashier from a convenience store) kissing, holding hands, and as a merman (i thought that was weird lol), and she was sweating while doing so. Also, Mei sneaks out of the house, lies about where she's going, and rebells against her mom, but I doubt that your child will turn into a terrible, rebellious kid just because they saw someone act that way in a pixar film. I especially love the diversity of the film and the way I can relate to Mei being a 13 year old. I would say 8 is a good age as long as your child is educated about periods and crushes. If they're immature, maybe not, but if they're mature then go for it. it's a good movie in my opinion.(also, remember that it's not weird to have crushes or your period!!!!!! it's normal!!!!!!!! this is a great film to show that).

People are being delusional, this movie is pretty good

I originally wasn’t planning on watching this movie. But last night, a friend of mine told me she watched it, and I decided to watch it too. Originally, I found it slightly cringey but then it came to me that this is something a younger me would have loved. It’s relatable for many kids and for those who don’t relate, that doesn’t mean there aren’t elements they can enjoy. Mei Mei’s relationship with her friend, her mom coming to realise that she wasn’t letting Mei Mei find out who she was herself, the K-popesque (very catchy) song that shows up throughout the movie and so much more. For the people saying this movie is bad because it depicts “sex” and periods, first of all, those are two very different things, don’t group them together. Periods are NOT inappropriate at ALL and please stop sheltering your kids from knowing what the heck is going on with their bodies. Pre-teens are confused, hormonal, and slightly annoying at times, but there is no reason to shelter them from things they most likely already know a few things about. Another thing is parents are complaining this glorifies rebellion. Since you guys are too delusional to understand the reality of this aspect of the movie, let me summarise it. Mei Mei had straight A’s, she was perfect, and she was her mother’s little girl, as you could say, and there is nothing wrong with those. But Mei Mei was having a hard time balancing being who her mom wanted to her be and growing up as who SHE wanted to be, so she tried to be a boy-crazy, hormonal, confused kid in secret and separate her home life from her life with her friends. This is not rebellion, this is Mei trying to escape from crippling expectations and her mother trying to force her to be something she wasn’t. I’m sorry that you parents can’t admit that you’re wrong sometimes, but you are. And if you can’t accept that your kid can’t always be who you’re trying to force them to be, that’s when your bond tears, and that’s what the movie was talking about. Believe it or not you DON’T own your kids or their personality. Controversies aside, this was a lovable slice of life movie with a very bubbly animation style. I’d rate Turning Red around 9+ because at that age kids probably will have at least a vague idea of puberty and what is being talked about, and should still be able to enjoy the style of the movie and the comedy slice of life aspect.

I can't believe some of these reviews. What a great movie.

It really makes me sad to see so many of these reviews to be so wrong. Turning Red is definitely one of my favorite Pixar movies. Being 13 is never easy, and in most movies, they make it seem nothing close to real life. Of course, everybody's experience is different, but Turning Red was one of the most realistic, yet. Mei-Mei is a teenager dealing with the ins-and-outs of puberty, like a typical teenager. (not according to some movies though :() Yes, periods and pads are mentioned. It really gets on my nerves how some of these reviews are badmouthing periods. It's a normal process that people that have them should be proud of. If you're worried about this, talk to your kids before or during the movie. It could end up as a learning process. Also, the word "sexy" and that type of stuff is mentioned, but nothing inappropriate. Mei-Mei does draw about her and a crush that she has in the movie, but really it's just things most teenagers go through. Like I said, great time to talk to your kids about this stuff. Also, I've seen reviews about Turning Red claiming Mei-Mei is disrespectful and all. I have to say I disagree. Mei-Mei is just a teenager learning about who she is and how life works, and it's gonna take trial and error. Also, her mother was too overprotective. Last, the word "crap" is mentioned. I don't think this is a big deal at all, but just wanted to include it. I hope this review helped!

More mature than most Pixar films, still great for older kids!

This movie has beautiful animation, great characters, good music, etc. It is definitely edgier than most Pixar films, but it’s about puberty so that’s expected. It talks about periods a few times, so be aware of that.

The message is all about being disrespectful and how others have to adapt to how you act.

This movie has a horrible message. I am a teenager myself, just a little older than the main character, and I understand why some reviews may say that the rebellion of the main character is important because it teaches her mother to let go and let her daughter be whoever she wants to be, but at the same time there needs to be a serious amount of responsible discipline between the mother and her daughter. Yes we all have our moments where we just get so upset with whatever is going on and we might lie, but Mei makes it seem like the rebellious life is the high life. Her mother simply does not find anything suspicious about her daughter even when she is obviously becoming a moody and snobby teenager and can’t seem to sit Mei down and tell her that she needs to be more respectful. In the end of the movie Mei practically tells her mom that the rebellious and disrespectful life that she began to show is who she is in and that everyone just has to deal with it. Wrong. The world doesn’t revolve around her. Second thing wrong with this movie is the uncomfortable moments with Mei and her friends’s crush. Yes crush’s can be normal to some people, but they are disturbingly extreme. Mei is hiding these pictures she drew of some boy she has a crush on, she is like leaning in to him and just obviously showing that she is way past a crush and is in love, but she is only 13 and has never even met the boy. Another thing is, is that at the end of the movie Mei twerks in front of her mom in order to make her upset, I really don’t feel like that is appropriate for certain ages because, even as I was watching it with my family, my brothers and cousins were laughing, thinking it was funny that she was shaking her butt, and not understanding that it is a sexual dance. The last thing is the addition of the period. For younger people who don’t know what that is, just get ready to explain what it is to them when watching. It’s not briefly mentioned by any means, but at the same time it is not in super detail. I just really felt like it wasn’t necessary. Besides the disrespectful message and sex related content, the movie still wasn’t that amazing. It wasn’t funny and quite cringe in many areas. But that’s just my opinion.
