Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Vocation, Explained

A perfect combination of archery and magick is at your disposal, Arisen.

Arrows take on elemental properties that can ricochet off hard surfaces, drain enemy health, or detonate in a violent explosion. If you enjoy fighting enemies from a distance, the Magick Archer is the Vocation for you. This guide will explain how to create the best Magick Archer build possible, covering everything from ideal skills to the best items you can use in the later stages of the game and beyond.

Build Overview

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (2)

Wield the power of the Magick Archer, an Arisen-exclusive Vocation that unleashes a flurry of elemental arrows. This build focuses on using the Magick Archer's damage skills to create the ultimate ranged DPS character. With some practice, you'll be able to blow up crowds of enemies, fire dozens of ricocheting projectiles, or trade your HP to fire the strongest Maister skill in the game.

Few Vocations can dish out as much damage as this, and you can deal this damage from a distance. Stay behind your party, make aim, and eliminate your targets before the fight ever truly begins.

Skills And Augments

Magick Archers can be tuned to support your team or deal an immense amount of damage. For this build, we'll be focusing on the latter. Equipping a wide range of damage skills will ensure that the Magick Archer will excel in every combat encounter.

Weapon Skills

Martyr's Bolt

Continuously drains your HP as you charge a powerful AoE attack. You can die from charging this skill too long.

At 75% charge, this skill will instantly kill most bosses in the game. HP lost this way cannot be recovered without resting.

Blazefang Arrow

Take control of a flaming arrow that detonates on impact.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (5)

Ricochet Hunter

Charge a volley of lightning arrows that ricochet off hard surfaces.

Extremely effective in caves and buildings.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (6)

Frosthunter Bolt

Creates an ice arrow that continuously attacks the foe. Arrows can freeze targets.

A maximum of five Frosthunter Bolts may be fired per volley.

Augments

Zeal

Skills cost 5% less Stamina.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (8)

Dynamism

Lowers your weight class by one tier.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (9)

Thew

Increases your carry weight by 10kg.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (10)

Athleticism

Sprinting drains 10% less Stamina.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (11)

Ambuscade

Attacks against stunned and sleeping enemies deal 10% more damage.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (12)

Subtlety

Decreases the likelihood of being targeted by foes.

This build can eliminate virtually every boss in the game in a couple of seconds. Frosthunter Bolt is a solid option for enemies that are weak to ice damage. Fire a barrage, then use your Quick Volley basic attack to freeze the enemy. For groups of goblins and other fodder enemies, you can use Blazefang Arrow. You can manually control this arrow as well, perfect for killing enemies around corners or for taking pictures in Photo Mode.

For indoor environments like caves, Ricochet Hunter is your best option. Charge up the ability, unleash the barrage, and virtually everything in that cave will cease to exist. Ricochet Arrow deals immense damage and can hit the same target dozens of times if the space is closed off. If you're fighting in an open environment and don't mind sacrificing your HP, Martyr's Bolt is the strongest skill the Magick Archer has.

This skill will continuously drain your HP as it charges a powerful AoE attack. If you drain 75% of your HP, this skill will kill whatever you're aiming at. Not even Lesser Dragons will survive. Just beware that this damages your loss gauge as well, so you'll need to rest or use an Allheal Elixir to recover your lost HP.

As for Augments, we go for generic stamina management effects. Zeal reduces the stamina cost of all skills, and Athleticism drains your stamina more slowly while sprinting. Dynamism and Thew greatly increase how much weight you can carry before your character becomes lethargic, and Subtlety reduces the likelihood that you'll be targeted by enemies.

We finish the build with Ambuscade from Archer, giving your skills a 10% damage buff against targets not in combat or currently stunned.

Admiral's Mantle

You won't unlock Magick Archer until you reach Volcanic Island, so by the time you can use this Vocation, you'll be able to acquire some great late-game items. Virtually everything we use can be obtained from the Volcanic Island vendor or from nearby dungeons. Dragon's Breath is acquired from a Griffin in Dragonsbreath Tower, and the Ring of Triumph is tied to Seeker Token rewards.

Item Upgrades

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (24)

All Magick Archer items, both your weapons and armor, should be upgraded with Dwarven Upgrades. This will greatly increase your weapon damage, knockdown power, and your armor's knockdown resistance.

The rings we use are mostly down to preference. Triumph gives generic bonuses to your HP, stamina, and weight limit. Since we use Dwarven upgrades, we use Ring of Vehemence to increase Magick Archer's knockdown rating. This makes it easy to stun larger foes with your attacks, especially multi-hit attacks like Frosthunter Bolt.

Grianmhar and Resonance Armor can be obtained from the WLC vendor in the Seafloor Shrine, while the rest of the items are sold by vendors. If you evacuate all the towns, each vendor will appear in the Seafloor Shrine until the end of your playthrough.

Magick Archer Tips

Dragon's Dogma 2: Magick Archer Build Guide (34)
  • Use your skills to infuse your quick attack. The Protracting Arrow core skill will inherit the damage type of the last elemental skill you used, allowing you to swap between fire, ice, and lightning on the fly.
  • Activate conversion to mark targets faster. Conversion lets you swap between a wider lock-on reticle or a smaller reticle that marks targets faster. We recommend the smaller reticle for most situations.
  • Drink Allheal Elixirs to recover all lost HP from Martyr's Bolt.
  • You can use Blazefang Arrow as a distant camera for Photo Mode. The camera will follow your arrow instead of your character.
